Marcy's Household Tips
KITCHEN:

- I use my breadmaker to make pizza crust, dinner rolls, and breadsticks as well as bread. I got out my recipes and for each recipe I put all the dry ingredients (except yeast) for 1 batch in a ziptop bag. Now I have my own mixes. When I want to use one I just add the liquid and dump the mix in.

-To soften cookies put a piece of bread in cookie jar. I've done this for years.

- Have stale tortilla chips, taco shells etc? Just put them on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven for a few minutes and they'll crisp right up.

- Roll pie crust etc on floured pizza pan it makes clean up easy. If you don't have a small onehanded rolling pin use a glass or else turn the pan upside down.

-Put plastic wrap over top of dough to keep roller clean (or roll between 2 sheets of waxed paper).

-When you try a new recipe make a note right on the recipe like Good, xxx's favorite, add more of whatever etc.

-When nobody likes a new recipe throw it away. This saves going back later and trying to remember if you've tried that one.

-I have put the family favorites in sheet protectors and put them in a 3ring binder. That way they are all together and when I want to use one I can pop it out. Being in plastic if I get something on it while I'm cooking all I have to do is wipe it off with a wet cloth and pop it back in the binder.

-I made a list of favorites meals and keep it handy for when I can't think of anything to fix.

-I buy several pounds of ground beef at a time and boil it. You just put it in a big pot and put just enough water to cover the meat. You only have to break it up with a large spoon and stir it every now and then instead of standing there constantly frying it. After it's drained and completely cooled I put it in baggies (a baggie holds about 1 lb.) and put it in the freezer. Then it is easy to grab one when I want taco salad or sloppy joes etc.

-To keep icing from sticking to plastic wrap or foil spray covering with Pam.

-Put your SOS pad in a baggie & pop it in the freezer after using to keep it from rusting
They seem to last forever that way.

GENERAL

I am not typically an organized person but these things have made life so much easier.

-Before grocery shopping clean out a place in cabinets & fridge for groceries you're bringing home.
I can't tell you the difference this makes!

-Each person has their own laundry basket.
I read this somewhere years ago and it helped tremendously. As you take things out of the dryer you put anything that doesn't need to be hung up in each persons basket.

- I have a little basket on a shelf near the washer for mis-matched socks, coins I find in pockets, and used dryer sheets.

- I always use dryer sheets at least four times.
1st use: items like undershirts and T shirts, things that are worn next to the skin and need the most softening.
2nd use: things like shirts etc that need to be softened but not as much.
3rd use: towels - the dryer sheet will still soften enough and prevent static.
4th use: jeans, socks - still a bit of softening power and static reducer.

-Store top sheet, fitted sheet & 2nd pillowcase inside 1st pillowcase.
That way you can easily grab the whole thing.

-After a meal each person takes their plate & glass to the sink. This takes no extra time really and makes it way easier for whoever is cleaning up.

..........And I found this tip on the Organized Christmas message board
To keep your gift wrap from unrolling off the roll, take a paper towel or toilet paper roll and cut a slit lengthwise. Put this on your wrap roll and it won't come unravelled.
