Ring the Bell

I looked at the bell in my hand,

And then I tried to understand.

It would always begin to ring

When I would move with the thing.

It seemed to be so simple to me,

And I kept looking to see.

That this bell would sound out loud ~

When I would shake it in the crowd.

It really bothered me that they didn't hear ~

The ringing to me seemed to be so clear.

They would go on their merry way ~

As if nothing had happened today.

I could hear the sweet chiming of the bell ~

As the music from it would begin to swell.

Still the people passed on and would go,

And they just didn't seem to ever know.

Standing on the street corner in the snow ~

My hand would move the bell real slow.

Silent Night it was a Holy Night ~

In the distance I could see the Light.

The star was shining so very bright ~

I kept the bell ringing all that night.

I was following to see where the star would lead ~

It was a manger there in the hay I believe.

A tiny Baby wrapped in swaddling clothes ~

Lay there out in that night so cold.

I saw the shepherds standing near by,

And angels all around in the sky.

I thought what could I do for this King ~

What could I give Him as an offering.

I looked at the bell in my hand ~

Then I began to understand.

I would proclaim to the whole earth ~

The miracle of this Child's birth.

Go through the streets and tell ~

Just keep ringing that little bell!
