My Son
I diapered your behind,
And listened to you whine.
I held your hand;
When you could not stand.
I fed your little belly;
With bread and apple jelly.
I rocked you to sleep;
When you would weep.
Your very first word;
Was by me heard.
I taught you to talk,
And helped you to walk.
I sent you to school,
And gave you the rules.
I helped with the lesson,
And put on the dressing.
Taught you about God,
And how to till the sod.
We gave you a car,
And thought you were a star.
Listened when you complained,
And gave you our name.
You married another;
Still I am your mother.
We love you now today,
So what more could I say!
