The Date

He was handsome and tall,

And for this man I did fall.

He would drink a few beers,

And then I had some fears.

However he would go to church ~

So that kept us in touch.

He liked to go to the dance,

But that was not my circumstance.

He would say a curse word too ~

I thought that will never do.

But his kiss was so sweet ~

He swept me off my feet.

How can this be wrong ~

My love seemed so strong?

We didn't date but a little while ~

Then we walked down the aisle.

It didn't take long to realize ~

I was in for a surprise.

He decided I was not enough,

And he searched for another powder puff.

He liked to gamble too ~

To me this was something new.

I would sit at home and wait,

But he would always be late.

I would stand and wonder why,

And then I would cry.

I was deceived by my affections,

And made all kind of exceptions.

The baby was soon due ~

O' yes, it is true.

It was of importance to him ~

That I was no longer very slim.

The other woman had a hold ~

He was killing the love in my soul.

There is a lesson to be learned ~

Be careful when the heart burns.

Make sure when you choose a mate ~

It is not just any date.

Not because of their looks ~

Not because she cooks.

Not because he is so handsome ~

Make sure the choice is the right one.

If you are a Christian girl or boy ~

Don't treat marriage like a toy.

Life is truly difficult enough

Without making it that rough.

Pray and seek the Lord's face ~

Before you fall into disgrace.

Divorce is no answer to a disaster ~

Faithfulness is what you are after.

Love is only right when it is true ~

Nothing else on earth will do.

You must be willing to wait ~

For the right one to date!
