After Sunset

Another day is over and done
Now we see the setting of the sun.
The night falls over the tired land,
And the lamp is lit on the stand.
The beams fall across the walls,
And shadows look so very tall.
Night began to cool the earth
As a mother deer gives birth.
The forest is alive with sounds
Crickets call out and rebound.
Those frogs tell of a need tonight
To find a mate in the moonlight.
Deep in the distance a dog barks,
And there is a rustle of some hawks.
The little brook flows over the rocks
As grandma turns the stem on the clock.
She gets the old Bible to read,
And on her knees to God she pleads.
She pulls the covers down once more,
And rest her eyes from all her chores.
